GRAE NEW GIRL

Introducing Toronto’s latest name to watch out for - GRAE. This talented young artist has been songwriting since she was ten-years-old and further developed her style while spending time in Australia for nine months, before heading back to Canada. There’s a multi-tonal aspect for GRAE’s music that was no doubt influenced by these different experiences, which we can hear in the jazz, RnB and pop infused single ‘New Girl’. It’s a track that hooks you in instantly with the lines “I heard you with your new girl, / Is she the one you told me not to worry about?” GRAE’s direct delivery in smokey dress is backed by jazzy beatwork; her vocals might be a light-touch, but her attitude and personal coverage certainly isn’t. Speaking about the context behind the single, GRAE says: "I wrote new girl when I found out my ex boyfriend of a couple years ended up with the exact girl he told me not to worry about when we were together. I found out on my birthday so it made for a pretty shit day but was also a great opportunity moment for a song.” Check out the video below, directed by GXXRLS, for an effortlessly cool performance. - Hannah Thacker
